Janet (Pickard) Elderkin

Janet Pickard Elderkin, 83, of Hazel Green, Alabama, formerly of Chautauqua County, New York, passed away on Monday.  

Janet was born and grew up in Chautauqua County and retired from the Chautauqua County Landfill in 1996 after approximately 20 years of service having filled several different bookkeeping/clerical positions.   She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and knitting.  In 1998, Janet moved to Alabama to be near family and was involved in the Hazel Green United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of The Joy Travelers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R. Earl & Margaret Pickard;  Her husband, Andrew P. Elderkin, her brother, Mervin E. Pickard, her identical twin sister, Janice Pickard Peterson - all of Chautauqua County, New York.

Surviving family members include her four children, Kim Tucker and his wife, Rosann of Mosinee, Wisconsin; Randy Tucker and his wife, Laurel of Champaign, Illinois;  Elizabeth French and her husband, Jerry of Springfield, Missouri; Robert Tucker and his wife, Audrey Jo of Hazel Green, Alabama; 9 Grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; Her sister, Betty Rothwell of Chautauqua County, New York, and her brother, Robert Pickard of Woodbridge, Virginia.  

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 until 3:30pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 3:30pm.  Burial will follow in the Dewittville Cemetery in Dewittville, New York.
