Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert  Allen Johnson was born on December 16, 1944 to James Morgan Johnson and Notie Dove Green of Monrovia, Alabama. He attended many schools over the years including Hazel Green and Monrovia Elementary. In 1962 he met and married Sudie Margaret Welch on July 9th 1962; they were married 60 years until her death in 2023. They had two children Robert William Johnson (Sharon), of Hazel Green and Morgan Feltner (Elijah) of Toney. Grand children Bradley Johnson (Katelyn), Chelsea Yeager (Brandon), Rayna Feltner, Sarah-Kathryn Feltner, Talya Feltner, one Great grandchild Winnie Johnson, and one on the way.

Preceded in death by his wife Sudie Johnson, his Parents, Brothers, Vernon Johnson, James Johnson, and Sisters Renia Burke, Mildred Peirce. He is survived by his Sister Janice Alexander and Brother Larry Johnson.

His early life was spent helping his father, a share cropper, on the farms where he and his siblings pick cotton for different farms during harvest season. He left school and started working for Huntsville Manufacturing Co., in 1963 until they closed in 1989. He worked briefly for Redstone Arsenal, and Jacquard Lace, textile mill and finally with Goodyear tire company in Decatur, Alabama. He was a Loom Technician. Robert retired from Goodyear in 2006.

Known for being a hardworking family man, Robert worked mostly third shifts, he would come home in time to see his children go to school and would leave for work when they returned home. Never one to complain, he was working to provide for his family, and that’s what mattered to him. He worked hard and he played just as hard. When younger he was an avid pool player, loved to fish. He assisted in helping his son Robert achieved boxing success in the 1980s. In the 1990s he took up dancing and would go out with his wife to enjoy an evening of country dancing, the two- step was his specialty. He was one to always occupy his down time with little projects, he taught himself to build and work on personal computers, and small equipment. Gardening and Art occupied his retired life. From building greenhouses, container gardens for a summer harvest, to picking up a paint brush in his 70s. Robert was always busy. He took care of his wife, Sudie, during her last days and made sure his children and grandchildren had whatever they needed. Christmas time was a time that he would splurge on his family making sure that they had the things that he only wish to have had as share croppers’ son in rural North, Alabama.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
