Norman Skrenes Obituary

Norman Dale Skrenes, (79), passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. He was a thirty-five-year resident of Meridianville and Madison County. Many will remember his dedication to the Hazel Green High School band from 2012 to 2016 while his grandson, River, was a member.

Norm was born in Madison, Wisconsin on September 11th, 1940 to Norman S. and Betty W. Skrenes. He grew up in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1958. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and was commissioned in the United States Air Force in 1964. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

During his 21 years in the Air Force, he was stationed at Grand Forks, Norton, Vandenberg, Maxwell, Wright-Patterson and Andrews Air Force Bases, always working with missiles. He finished his career on a joint missile project with the Navy at Crystal City.

Norm started his second career with Teledyne Brown in 1985. His advisor, Dan Buchanan, wrote the following about his work here: "Norm Skrenes was a Senior Systems Engineer for the System Engineering and test department of Teledyne Brown Engineering. Based on his extensive aerospace and missile experience, he held many key positions, including Project Engineer Program Manager and deputy Department Manager. He was active in new business development and held key positions as proposal manager and technical consultant for numerous Teledyne Brown enterprises.

As an experienced Old Timer, Norm was a favorite among the young engineers. His cheerful personality, ready-smile and willingness to listen, make suggestions, and roll up his sleeves made him a great leader and role-model. He was a Patriot."

He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir.

Norm is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Skrenes, one grandson, River Shea Skrenes, and two brothers, Neal David Skrenes and Noel Dean Skrenes. One Niece: Margaret Skrenes, and one nephew: Noah Skrenes. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kevin Todd Skrenes.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 12:30 - 2:00 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.  A memorial service with military honors will follow at 2:00.
