Martha Sharp Obituary

It is with regret that we announce the death of Mrs. Martha Jane Sharp, 77, of New Market.  Mrs. Sharp went to be with the Lord on Sunday.

Martha Jane Sharp was born in Huntsville to Earl and Maurice Henderson on May 11, 1944. She married Frank Sharp on June 16, 1962. They were just shy of 60 years of marriage. She worked at NASA as Telecommunications Operator for 30+ years.

Martha, lovingly known as Granny, GG, and Martha Jane to her family, lived a life full of joy and laughter. She displayed her love for Christ through the way she loved those around her. Each grandchild claims they’re her favorite, but that’s just the thing - she loved them each so hard that they each felt the most cherished and loved. You could count on a hug and Granny to tell you “I love you bunches and bunches.” She enjoyed spending time with her family, recounting stories from the past, and discovering how she is related to someone.

Her husband, Frank, says “Martha always wanted to be sure her family was safe and had things they needed. She was very close to her mother, father, brothers, and sister. She wanted to hear that her family and friends had a relationship with Christ and attended church. She loved to help people in need. I could never explain how much she meant to me and how much love with each other for 60 years.”
The family is known to admire their marriage for their love, dedication, and care for each other.

A few favorite memories of the family are her cooking, beach trips, shopping, and the infamous “Granny square.” Mrs. Martha Jane despised taking left turns. To know her, was to love her. Her granddaughter, Rena, states that “she was the best Granny ever.” If you were ever in her presence, you were guaranteed to feel seen, heard, and loved.

Preceeded in death by parents Earl and Maurice Henderson, brothers David and Billy Henderson, and Sister Mary Adeline.
