John H. Thomas

Mr. John H Thomas passed away at his home on March 21, 2021, at the age of 86.  He was born on December 7, 1934, in Decatur, AL and was the only child of Julius Wesley Thomas and Georgie Etta Hines Thomas. 

Mr. Thomas was united in holy matrimony to Texia Hargrove Thomas on July 21, 1956, in Iuka, MS. They shared 64 years of marriage and were blessed with two children and two grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas retired from PPG Industries after 27 years of service. He was also a dedicated member of the military with 17 years of service in the Alabama Army National Guard. 

He was an avid bowler, fisherman, golfer, and always enjoyed playing cards. Mr. Thomas was a professed Christian.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Texia Thomas; children, Pam Bishop and Eric (Gwen) Thomas; grandchildren, Stephen Bishop and Gracie Thomas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Linda Beverly, Bobby and Karen Gipson, Joe and Carol Cyr, and Colin Hargrove; special friends, JD and Faye Battles; 11 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Georgie Thomas; aunt and uncle, Roy and Lula Heard; father-in-law and mother-in-law Wilburn and Martha Hargrove; sister-in-law, Paula Hargrove.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 26, 2021, from 5:30-7:30 at Hazel Green Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 11:00 at Hazel Green Funeral Home with interment to follow at Gatlin Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Thomas, Stephen Bishop, Bobby Gipson, Ray Beverly, Joe Cyr, Deric Cyr, Justin Cyr, Travis Cyr, Rodney Gipson, Gabriel Gipson, and JD Battles.

All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, cards, and memorial contributions to Kindred Hospice Care are welcome. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to everyone for their prayers, thoughtfulness, and generosity during this difficult time.
