Janet D. Bauer

August 15, 1935 ~ September 7, 2023 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Janet D. Bauer, 88, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on September 7 th , 2023, at Harbor Chase Assisted Living facility under the care of Amedisys Hospice.

Janet was born on August 15, 1935, in DuBois, Pennsylvania to her parents James Lionel Droney and Eva Elvina Johnson Droney who preceded her in death. She had two sisters who also preceded her in death, Marion Droney Bolam and Jane Droney Welling.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Cindy B. Lehman, husband Jimmy, her son Stephen J. Bauer and his wife Michelle, three granddaughters, Megan Bauer Walker, and husband Jacob, Gabby Bauer, and Aliya Bauer, and several nieces and nephews.

After graduating high school Janet attended college at Nyack University in Nyack, New York receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education. She later moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida where she was employed as a secretary with the Department of Defense. While there she applied for and was accepted into the training program for Contract Specialist which eventually brought her to Huntsville, Alabama. Janet took great pleasure in her contract work on Redstone Arsenal in the Patriot Missile Project office. At the time of her retirement, Janet oversaw the largest contract and negotiations for the Patriot Missile. Janet loved to travel and upon recounting her travel history with her son Steve she realized she had travelled to approximately 25 different countries over her lifetime with Israel and Italy being among her favorites abroad and Alaska in the United States.

She also loved bird watching, competitive game playing, archaeology, geology and singing harmony with the church choir and with her daughter Cindy. One thing that was genetically passed down to her two children was her love of a good cup of coffee, day or night, regular or decaf, a cup was typically at her side. Janet particularly adored spending time with her three granddaughters, and they loved spending time with her, especially when it came to baking cookies or looking forward to ice cream and cookies from McDonald’s. On the days she would pick them up from school she always had a riddle for them to solve.

Most importantly, Janet loved her Lord and Savior. It was through her devotion to the Lord, reading her Bible, and prayer that she instilled in her children and grandchildren an example of how to live a Holy life. Galatians 5:22-25 is the best testimony that her children can say about her. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance with the Spirit.” Janet Bauer offered a tangible example of the Fruit of the Spirit throughout her life.
