His pastimes included working on cars, and after his retirement, he loved hay and cattle farming.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Wilma Towery Bishop, who passed away in 2007, and by his granddaughter, Amanda Porter Smith who passed in 2016. He was also preceded in death by eight of his siblings.
Surviving family members include his daughters and sons-in-law, Gail & Dennis Gardner and Donna & Michael Porter; his four grandchildren: Chance (Rachel) Mullins, Brad (Tammy Jones) Mullins, Angelia (BJ Hall) Sanderson, Mitch (Erika) Porter; He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and by his sister, Ann Evans.

William will be remembered as the epitome of a true southern gentleman - always showing courtesy and kindness, putting others before himself, and for his amazing love for his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and all his family.
