Wava Ann Shores of Hazel Green, Alabama went to be with the Lord while resting peacefully on Tuesday. She was 83. Wava was a Christian and a faithful member of Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church.
She was a warm and social person who genuinely loved being around others. She was also a very talented seamstress who operated her own business, creating beautiful dresses for weddings and other special occasions. Her skill and attention to detail were very impressive.
She enjoyed traveling with her family, attending gospel singings, and singing gospel music alongside her family as part of The Sisk Sisters. Some of her happiest moments were spent at home with family, especially when her grandchildren came to spend the night. She loved collecting salt and pepper shakers and was known for making her grandchildren one of their favorite treats—chocolate gravy and biscuits.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, Wesley Eugene "Gene" Shores, by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Shores Murphy and Matt Murphy; by her parents, Ira & Mildred Satterfield Sisk.
Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Debbie Shores; her son, Eddie Shores; her grandchildren: Greg (Elanor) Shores Jr, Lauren Shores, Becky Shores, Samantha Lesniak, Brandon Shores, and Colin Murphy; her great-grandchildren: Dominic, Lily and Jayden: Her siblings, Elaine Worsham, Bonnie (Butch) LaPier, Roger (Brenda) Sisk, Loretta (Jimmy) Underwood, and Jolene Sisk. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews along with many friends and her church family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5pm until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 12pm at Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Benny Berry officiating. Burial will then be in Bevill's Cemetery adjoining the church.
