Wannie Hollman Anderson passed peacefully on December 30, 2025 at the age of 96.
He was born February 18, 1929 to Ernest and Girdie Anderson of Cullman, Alabama.
He was born prior to the Great Depression and by 1939, when WWII started, his family worked at the Arsenal. They resided at Redstone Park, where they actually had power lines and electricity and were furnished an ice box for refrigeration. He attended Farley School through 7th grade when he decided to withdraw and went to work for the Huntsville Depot and had various other jobs until the war ended.
He was enlisted in the Army National Guard during this time. His family moved back to Cullman and he worked on the family farm and shortly after met the love of his life, Jimmie Ann; they married June 3, 1950.
He was then drafted into the Signal Core. After time in the Army, he worked at Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA) and subsequently NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center until retirement in 1984.
Wannie, known to many as W.H. or Andy was the most kind-hearted yet stubborn man. All who knew him, knew he would give the shirt off of his back to help someone in need. He adored his family and also loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and Atlanta Braves. In his free time, he enjoyed mowing the grass and riding the golf cart around his property.
He is preceded in death his beloved wife of 68 years, Jimmie Ann, his parents and all siblings— Gordon, Eva, Bobby, Billy, and Yvonne. He is survived by his daughter Ginger Lowry (Jerry), granddaughter Morgan Staggs (TJ), grandsons Brooks Lowry (Kim), Jeremy Lowry (Morgan), great grandchildren, his sister-in law Jean Sisco, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service. Burial will then follow in Stateline Cemetery in Hazel Green with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Huntsville Hospital’s Hospice Family Care through the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. Contributions may be designated for Hospice Family Care.
