Tommie "Mack" Baeder, 81, of Hazel Green, Alabama, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 4, 2026.
Mack was born on May 12, 1945, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Nellie and Thomas Baeder. He grew up in Hazel Green, Alabama, where he met the young woman who would become the love of his life and his bride, Brenda Betterton.
Mack and Brenda were married on March 30, 1968, beginning a marriage and life together that spanned 52 years. Together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and the values that guided them throughout their lives.
Mack worked hard throughout his life, but his greatest joy was always found in the people he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
One of the greatest examples of Mack's love and devotion was the care he provided to Brenda during her battle with dementia. He faithfully stood by her side, serving as her caregiver with patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Their love was evident to all who knew them. When they weren't at home, you could often find Mack and Brenda enjoying dinner together at Posey's, one of their favorite places to eat.
Known affectionately as "Poppa," Mack could often be found in the stands cheering on his grandchildren at ballgames, school activities, and sporting events. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching them grow, succeed, and make memories of their own. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. His love, support, wisdom, and encouragement will continue to influence generations to come.
Mack's generosity extended far beyond his own family. For many years, his swimming pool was a gathering place for family, friends, neighbors, and anyone looking to cool off on a hot summer day. He never hesitated to open his home and welcome others, creating countless memories and bringing people together. His hospitality, kindness, and servant's heart made everyone feel like family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Baeder, and his parents, Thomas and Nellie Baeder.
He is survived by his son, Chad Baeder (Susie); his brother, Jimmy Baeder; and his grandchildren, Landon, Reagan, and Lauren Baeder.
Mack will be remembered for his strong faith, dedication to his family, and the example he set through a life well lived. He did not seek recognition, but his steady presence, compassion, and willingness to serve others madea difference in the lives of many.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has finished his earthly journey and is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and reunited with his beloved Brenda.
Mack leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, love, devotion, hospitality, and selfless service that will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Barry Hanback officiating. Interment will follow in Charity Cemetery.
