Thomas "Tommy" Haden Townson Jr.

Thomas Haden “Tommy” Townson Jr., 77, of Toney, Alabama, passed away on November 10, 2025, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born on July 15, 1948, in Guntersville, Alabama, to the late Thomas and Beatrice (Stone) Townson.

Tommy was born and raised in Guntersville and attended Marshall County High School. A lifelong Wildcat fan, and kept up with their football games every Friday night. In 1981, he moved to Huntsville and began working full-time with the Alabama Army National Guard in 1982. He proudly served his country and retired following his deployment to Afghanistan. After his military retirement, he earned his college degree and later worked for seven years in the mail and file department at the Sparkman Center.

Tommy was a big Auburn football fan and also enjoyed visiting his favorite local restaurants. He was extremely humble and had a very generous giving heart. Many times paying for others meals as a random act of kindness. However, his greatest joy was loving and spending time with his family—whom he loved deeply and faithfully. "He loved us well."

He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Robin Wheeler Townson; children Whitney (Adam) Bailey, Thomas Haden “Ty” Townson III (Andy Hopper), and Erin Vann; grandchildren Mercy Vann, Maisy Vann, along with Briceton Wheeler Bailey, Caroline Elizabeth Bailey, Reed Thomas Bailey, and Harper Jaymes Bailey whom he cherished dearly; sister Gwen Bowen; sisters-in-law Lindy Wheeler and Ann (Mike) Jerrell; and dear friends Chip and Betty Cochran, along with many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sidney Faith Townson; grandparents John and Ruth Townson and “Mama Bell”; and his parents-in-law, Howard and Jimmie Ruth Wheeler.

The family will receive friends at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clay Cemetery.
