Mr. Solon Eugene Bentley of the Lincoln community went to be with the Lord on Sunday while surrounded by his loving family. He was 84. Solon was born and raised in New Market, Alabama where he graduated from Buckhorn High School in 1959. After meeting and marrying his beloved wife, Virginia, he moved to the Lincoln Community where he was a proud resident for almost all the remainder of his life. He loved his community and had served on the board of the Lincoln Cemetery for a number of years.
He was a devoted insurance sales professional and was happy serving his customers over the course of his long career. After retirement, he enjoyed being on the farm with his cows and working in his garden.
Mr. Bentley was a faithful Christian and a part of the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green where he served in several ministries including being a deacon. Solon will be remembered for his devotion to and love for his family - all of who were very important to him, and for being an avid Alabama fan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark W. Bentley; his parents, Robert & Lula Mae Ricketts Bentley; his siblings: William Bentley, Dean Bentley, Pete Bentley, Lillie Pearl Tallent, and Dortha Nell Moyers.
Surviving family members include his wife of 66 years, Virginia Cowley Bentley; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Terri Bentley; his grandchildren: Matthew (Kristen) Bentley, Ashley (Ian) Bentley, and Sydney Bentley; his great-grandchildren: Kolton Bentley, Kathryn Bentley, and Kason Bentley; his sister, Delores Ann Bentley and his sister-in-law, Margarette Bentley.
