Sara (Hagan) Henderson went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born in Anniston, Alabama on November 25, 1937, to Clarence and Ruth Hagan, and was an older sister to Phillip and Linda. It was there that she learned to play the piano and at the age of 12, she used her God given talent to play hymns for Moore Avenue Baptist Church. Later she met and married Bob Henderson and they moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1962.

Sara and Bob joined West Huntsville Baptist Church September 9, 1962, where she served faithfully for over 50 years playing the piano for the youth and the adult choirs and the church quartet. Later she blessed the congregation by playing the pipe organ. She shared her love of music for several years by giving piano lessons first from home and then to many students at Triana Village Baptist School where she also led the student choir.

Sara loved traveling and she didn’t let her finicky type one diabetes slow her down. She shared her faith on many mission trips to Ukraine. She traveled with the church youth choir to St. Louis, Missouri, Washington D.C., Hartford, Connecticut, and traveled with church groups to the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and to visit missionaries in Europe.

Later in life, Sara’s own special ministry was sending cards. She had lists of birthdays and anniversaries, boxes of greeting cards, and she kept the U.S. mail carriers busy while she let her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ know that she loved them.

Sara Henderson was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Hagan and Ruth Simmons Hagan, her beloved husband of 58 years, Bob Henderson, and their son Billy Scott. She is survived by her brother Phillip Hagan, sister Linda Fulmer, sister-in-law Gayle Bachus (Roy) son, Barry Henderson (Donna) and daughter Carol Henderson, her four grandchildren, Jessica Henderson (Chrystal), Kayla Holmes (Jacob), Zackary Moore (Leslie), and Blake Lewis, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at West Huntsville Baptist Church on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. followed by her Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Committal will be at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston, AL. at 3:30 p.m.
