Richard Keith Patterson

Richard Keith “Dick” Patterson of Hazel Green, AL passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Huntsville Hospital at the age of 65.

Richard was born in Lincoln County, TN on August 21, 1959—a date he proudly reminded everyone also marked Hawaii becoming the 50th state. He lived his entire life in Lickskillet and was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Peggy Patterson; his baby sister, April Joyce Patterson; and all four grandparents.

Richard was a simple man with a stubborn streak a mile wide. He lived life on his own terms with a certain amount of grit, humor, and stubborn pride. He never backed down from what he believed—whether others agreed with him or not. While his hard-headedness could wear on some, his kind spirit made him easy to like and hard to forget.

Richard was a true fan of WWE wrestling and fast-track NASCAR; he could often be found cheering for his favorite drivers or glued to the TV watching wrestling matches he passionately believed were 100% real—no matter what anyone else said. After a traumatic brain injury in 2000, his personality shifted in some ways, but his love for family remained strong—and his desire to do exactly what HE wanted only grew stronger.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses: April (Kevin) Grove, Rachel (Justin) Neeley, and Joel (Karra) Patterson; and by five grandsons whom he loved fiercely: Kevin, Kaleb, Patrick, Lucas, and Aaron. He is also remembered by his ex-wife of 30 years, Linda (& David) Turner, and his lifelong friend Jerry (& Kathy) Emery with whom he shared many days of laughter and companionship.

Though his life had its challenges, his family is grateful he didn't have to suffer from recent medical diagnoses and that he passed peacefully. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private memorial will be held by the family, in keeping with Richard’s final wishes.
