Clarence Ray Tucker, 98, of Meridianville, Alabama, passed away on October 5, 2026, at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville, Alabama.
Ray was born May 6, 1928, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, to George Spivey Tucker and Ada Frame Tucker. Ray grew up with five brothers—James, Don, Jerry, Butch, and Charles—and one sister, Pearl. His parents later moved to Huntsville, Alabama. Ray married Ruby Jewel Taylor in 1947 and built a life centered around faith, family, service, and hard work.
Ray proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955, stationed in Germany and California. Following his military service, he spent his working years in Huntsville. His career included employment with Nehi Bottling Company, the City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department, and in civilian service at Redstone Arsenal, where he worked as a communications specialist.
Ray was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of Meridianville Church of Christ. He served the congregation as an elder for 45 years, a testament to his steadfast faith, wisdom, and devotion to serving others.
Ray found pleasure in the simple blessings of life. He loved mowing his yard, woodworking, and watching Westerns. His greatest legacy was not found in his work or accomplishments, but in caring for his family.
Ray was the devoted husband of Ruby Jewel Taylor Tucker, with whom he shared 79 years of marriage. He is survived by his family, Joy Tucker Hereford; Gloria Tucker Scherzinger and her husband, Jerome; and Louise Tucker Koonce and her husband, Marty.
He also leaves behind grandchildren, Maegan Scherzinger Doak and her husband, John; Mallory Scherzinger; Tucker Koonce and his wife, Annika; Taylor Koonce and his wife, Laney; Tanner Koonce; and Trevor Koonce and his wife, Kinley; and his great-grandchildren, Molly, Isaac, and Emma Doak; Killian, Lewis, Ruby, Elowyn, and Lily Koonce.
Survivors also include his youngest brother, Charles Tucker, and his wife, Ann, as well as numerous loving and dedicated nieces and nephews, as well as close family friends who gave generously of their time, love, encouragement, and support throughout his life.
Ray’s life was marked by faithfulness—to his Lord, his country, his church, his family, and the community he called home. He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and faithful servant.
His family takes comfort in the knowledge that his earthly journey is complete and that he rests in the eternal hope of heaven. His legacy of love, faith, service, and devotion will continue through the generations of family he cherished so dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Meridianville Church of Christ. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Campbell Cemetery in Corder’s Cross Roads, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Meridianville Church of Christ, designated for the Ray & Ruby Tucker Freed-Hardeman University Scholarship or General Missions.
