Mrs. Patricia Gail Smith Hollingsworth of Toney, a lifelong resident of the Huntsville area, went to be with the Lord on Saturday while surrounded by her loving family. She was 79. She was a graduate of Huntsville’s Butler High School and earned an associate degree.
Pat was a faithful follower of Christ, a member of Woodland Hill Baptist Church, and served as the Women’s Missionary Union Director for the Madison Baptist Association. She enjoyed serving in the church in many capacities and especially loved singing in the church choir and with various gospel groups.
She worked as a Child Nutrition Supervisor for the Auburn University Extension Service, where she served families in need. She later became a Child Nutrition Manager for Huntsville City Schools, working at West Huntsville Elementary and Morris Elementary before her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Hollingsworth; her brother, Charles Alfred Smith; her sister, Betty Jo Bishop; and her parents, Alfred B. and Birtie Mae Smith.
Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Dean Lusk; her grandchildren, Nelson and Lauren Lusk, and Alaina and James Elkins; and her sister-in-law, Trenna Larson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Barry Cosper officiating.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of North Alabama, Hospice Family Care, and Sure Save Pharmacy of Harvest for their love and special care during Patricia's long health journey. They could not have made it without your support.
Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
