Nolan Lee Honea

Mr. Nolan Lee Honea of New Market passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. He was 94. Mr. Honea was born and raised in the Walnut Grove community and attended Walnut Grove School before graduating from New Market High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

After his military service, he attended business college in Nashville and then worked for Goodyear and Teledyne Brown. He began working at Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960 and was employed in the space program until his retirement in 1994.

Mr. Honea learned the value of hard work growing up on the family farm. He was a Christian and a part of Union Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Essie and Ethia (Wright) Honea; his siblings, Raymond Honea, Madillon Swafford, Edith Harris, Loy Morris, Joyce Thompson and Carl Honea.

Surviving family members include his wife of almost 66 years, Naomi Honea; his four sons: Randall Honea, Jerry Honea (Alisa), Terry Honea, and Jay Honea (Susan); his grandchildren: Candace Burgess (Will), Seth Honea (Raylee), Brandon Honea (Alyssa), Britney King; He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11am at Union Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Johnson officiating. Burial will then be in Taylor Cemetery with military honors.
