Nelda Dean Wiggers, 84, passed away at home in Toney, Alabama, on March 8, 2026. She was born on April 2, 1941, in Hanceville, AL, to Louis and Myra Ray.

Dean Wiggers attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and worked various jobs in banking and education before she and her husband opened The Living Word Book and Gift in Brewton, AL. Dean managed and ran The Living Word for over 20 years. Mrs. Wiggers was active in Baptist churches throughout her life, from her young adult days serving at camps and with the Home Missions Board to teaching Sunday School and working with children in the congregations her husband, Rev. Bert Wiggers, pastored. The Wiggers retired to Toney and were members of First Baptist Church, Hazel Green.

Dean is survived by her sons, Jason of Toney, AL, and The Rev. John Mark (Elizabeth) of Knoxville, TN; grandsons Jack Wiggers (Hannah) of Atlanta, GA, and Elliott Wiggers of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by her sister Becky Baber of Silver Spring, MD; her brother Harold Ray of Hanceville, AL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, Rev. Bert Wiggers, her daughter Jenny Lynn, and her brother Leroy (Wanda) of Meridian, MS.

The family will receive friends at Hazel Green Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brad Williams. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville, Alabama.
