Melissa Kaye King, 53, of New Market, Alabama, passed away on August 17, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on January 31, 1973.

Melissa will be remembered as a loving mother and a wonderful Mimi to her grandchildren, who meant so much to her. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and believed deeply in His love, grace, and promise of eternal life. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Melissa overcame many challenges throughout her life and showed her children what incredible strength looked like. She was stubborn in the best way and was never afraid to stand up for what she believed was right, even when she knew it would not be easy. Even during difficult seasons, she still tried to be a light to the people around her.

She was outgoing, loved to dance, and was always willing to be silly and make people laugh. One of the things she often said was, “This too shall pass,” a reminder to keep going even when life felt heavy.

Some of Melissa’s happiest moments were spent at the beach, having sleepovers with her grandbabies, and with her beloved dog, George, by her side. She also loved taking pictures and rarely missed a chance to capture a moment with her children and grandbabies. Those photographs will now be among the memories her family treasures most.

Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Vicki Long.

She is survived by her children, Michelle Quesnell (Chez), Bree Gibson (Alex), Amanda Childers (Ben), and Caitlin Messer (Zach); her grandchildren, Blakely King, Rhiley Welch, Sage Childers, Tristan Childers, Leah Mayo, and Declan Mayo; her brother, Danny Long; and her beloved dog, George.

Melissa’s family hopes that her life will serve as a reminder to hold the people we love a little tighter, to give grace freely, and to remember that even in the darkest seasons, there is still hope.

Visitation will be held from 4:30pm until 6pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, 2026. A memorial service will follow at 6pm.
