Luther Stancel Christian, age 74, passed away peacefully on February 24 2026. Born on October 31, 1951, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Luther lived a life defined by faith, dedication, love for family and unwavering commitments to his work and values.
Luther pursued his education in engineering studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, preparing for what would become a remarkable 44 year career in telecommunications. He faithfully served as a digital service technician with AT&T, formerly BellSouth and South Central Bell. Luther was widely respected for his professionalism, reliability, and tireless work ethic. His extraordinary dedication earned him regional recognition for perfect attendance during his first 35 years of service--an achievement so rare that it was honored by The Huntsville Times, forever marking his legacy of commitment and responsibility.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Luther's greatest joy was found in his family. He cherished time spent outdoors, especially when hosting loved ones on the recreational and fishing boats he proudly owned and operated over the years. These moments on the water created memories that will live on the hearts of those who knew him. His grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Grand Dad", held a particularly special place in his heart, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
A devoted fan of Alabama football, Luther eagerly anticipated each college football season, sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends. His steady personality, organized nature, and strong sense of accountability shaped the lives of those around him. He led by example, maintaining high expectations not only for himself but also for those he loved.
Above all, Luther's life was grounded in his faith in Jesus Christ. He spoke openly and often about his relationship with his Savior, desiring for everyone he encountered to understand the importance of faith in his life. His quiet strength, moral conviction, and enduring faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Monroe Luther Christian; his mother, Clara O'Dean Sullivan; and his son-in-law, Lamar Farmer.
Luther is survived by his loving wife, Denise Pamplin Thompson Christian of Fayetteville, Tennessee; his daughter JoAnna Cockrell and her husband Grant Cockrell, and their children Kaylor, Keegan, and Kamden Cockrell; his daughter Angela West and her husband Keith West, and their children Logan Farmer, Landon Farmer, and Shelby West; his maternal uncle J.M. Sullivan; and his maternal aunt, Linda Sullivan Hallman.
He is also survived by his stepsons Jeremy Thompson and his wife Lindsay Thompson, and their children Grady and Eden Thompson; and Josh Thompson and his wife Jennifer Thompson and their children Julia, Jordan Jenna and Jackson Thompson.
Luther will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant, and dependable friend. His life was marked by integrity, consistency, and love. While his absence leaves a profound void, his legacy of faith, dedication, and love will continue to guide and inspire his family for generations to come.
Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Hazel Green Funeral Home beginning at 12:30 and lasting until 2:00. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 PM with Eddie Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Stateline Cemetery.
