Lila Marie Michael

Lila Marie Michael, 84, of Gurley, Alabama, passed away on October 4, 2025. She was born on September 28, 1941, in Van Buren County, Michigan, to the late Bert and Mae (Hicks) Dyer.

Lila found her way into the heart of all she knew with her quiet and gentle spirit. She was married 67 years to the love of her life and especially depended on him to the very end as Alzheimer's took over her being. She was devoted to her family and worked diligently to make sure everyone knew they were loved by hosting numerous celebrations and attending as many sports and school events as possible. For 30 years, she worked for CAS/WYLE/KBR as a dedicated employee before her retirement in January of 2020. She loved her church and attended numerous Bible studies and women’s events. She was involved in outreach bus ministry or children’s work for many years. Her favorite hobby was working in the rock garden which she designed and where she grew her favorite flowers. She had many talents that she turned into treasures such as painting, making stained glass panels, and sewing.

Lila is survived by her husband, Samuel Claude Michael Sr.; her children, Karen Ann Michael Ulmet (Kevin), John Charles Michael (Paige), and Samuel Austin Michael (Allyssa); grandchildren, Carrie Jensen (Peder), John Michael II (Britney), Carissa Jay (Andrew), Christy Grimes (Luke), Sawyer Lomas (Eric), Hunter Michael, Brooks Michael, Nathan Young; great grandchildren; Eldon, Samantha, Madison, Michaela, Jackson, Aleck, Ivy Ann, Addie, Charleigh, Merlin, Wyatt, Londyn, Ivy Lynn, Owen and Grant; sister, Marge MacKenzie and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Samuel Claude Michael Jr. and Daniel Lee Michael; grandchildren, Tyler Foster, and Taylor North; siblings, Helen Hauck, and Jack Dyer.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Kevin Ulmet officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery following the service at approximately 1:45 pm
