Larry Steve Moore, age 79, known to many as “Bear” or “Shadowbear,” passed away on December 22, 2025. He was born on September 22, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Jesse Arden Moore and Ivy Lucille Garrett Moore of Mineral Wells, Texas.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He wore many hats throughout his life. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a master carpenter, later enjoying a successful career as a master gunsmith and construction foreman. He eventually partnered with his wife in a successful transport business until his second retirement.

Larry had a special way with animals and small children, and no matter the age of his audience, he always had a Texas-style tall tale to tell. He loved riding his motorcycle and traveling across the country with his wife. He was a proud member of the Texas Buckskinners and the American Mountain Man Association, where he earned the nickname “Shadowbear.”

Larry was a big man with an even bigger heart and a quiet, steady disposition. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Moore, Sandra Kay Moore, and Brenda Sue Pierson, all of Mineral Wells, Texas; his son, Troy Moore of Mineral Wells, Texas; and his grandchildren, Melody Funderburg of Bastrop, Texas, and Garret Moore of Mineral Wells, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Martha Sharp Moore of Toney, Alabama; his sister, Barbara Matthews of Alvarado, Texas; his children, son Terry Herrington of Mineral Wells, Texas, and daughters Crystal Stalder of Waco, Texas, and Marcie Moore of Bastrop, Texas; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of Larry’s life will be announced after the first of the year.
