Katherine Lucile Edwards, age 95, departed this life on January 11, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1930, in Madison County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Elzer Jackson Sharp and Lucille Sharp.

A woman of remarkable intellect and dedication, Katherine devoted more than 40 years of service to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, retiring in 1994. Her distinguished career culminated in her work with Space Shuttle crew training, where her strong work ethic, professionalism, and kindness earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

While her professional accomplishments were significant, Katherine’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who placed her loved ones above all else. She instilled in her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the belief that honesty, tempered with compassion, is a true virtue.

Katherine shared 72 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Billy Edwards, a union that reflected a rare and beautiful partnership. To know them was to witness unconditional love. Katherine and Billy lived in Huntsville, Alabama, until 2000, when they moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and collecting antiques, but her favorite moments were those spent in the company of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Elzer Jackson Sharp Jr. and Thomas J. Sharp; and her sister-in-law, Jeanette Sharp.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Eddison Edwards; her son, Todd Edwards; her grandchildren, Lindsay Henson (Colby), Andrew Edwards (Shelby), and Rachel Edwards; and five great-grandchildren, Macie, Ella, Spencer, Henry, and Dovie Edwards, all of Lincoln County.

Katherine’s passing is a profound loss, but the impact of her character is a lasting gift that will live on in the hearts of many. She was confident in her eternity, knowing Jesus Christ as her Savior, and her loved ones find comfort in the assurance that they will see her again.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m., with burial afterward at Concord Cemetery.
