Joyce Honea Thompson, 91, of Meridianville, Alabama, passed away on December 27, 2025. Joyce was born on July 5, 1934, in New Market, Alabama, to the late Essie and Ethia (Wright) Honea.

She was raised on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work. Joyce attended Walnut Grove School and graduated from New Market High School. She later completed her education at business school in Nashville, Tennessee.

Joyce married William "Bill" Thompson, and together they raised two sons, Jeff and Mark. She was a devoted mother who supported her sons throughout their education and careers. Family was always the center of Joyce's life.

In addition to caring for her family, Joyce worked at Redstone Arsenal in the program that later became NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. She served as an administrative assistant with NASA for over 30 years. After retiring, Joyce worked alongside her son Mark in his practice. She also lovingly provided continual care for her husband Bill for many years.

Following Bill's passing, Joyce devoted much of her time to her grandchildren, often taking them on special outings, including trips through fast-food drive-thrus in her beloved car, affectionately named "Lady Bug".

Joyce was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church in New Market, where she sang in the choir. She lived with dementia symptoms for ten years and received loving care from family members and numerous caregivers. Joyce was known for her generous spirit and her joy in giving to her family and friends throughout her life.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Jeff (Patricia) Thompson and Mark (Cynthia) Thompson; grandchildren, Anna Thompson, Justin (Lynsey) Thompson, Sarah (William) Earles, and Ross (Abby) Thompson; great-grand children, William Thompson, Bailey Thompson, James Earles, Robert Earles, and Shep Thompson; siblings, Nolen (Naomi) Honea and Carl (Lynda) Honea; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Thompson, who passed away in 2002; and her siblings, Raymond Honea, Madillon Honea, Edith Harris, and Loy Morris.
