In this life, Jewel Christine Worley Gipson, at the age of 90, chose her moment and took her leave, reminding us all that even in the end, she was still very much in charge.

In her later years, she was best known for her lively, fighting spirit- an attribute that both endeared her to and occasionally tested the patience of the nursing home staff. She never lost her wit, her charm, or her natural ability to lead throughout many years in assisted living and nursing homes.

As a young woman, Jewel graduated at the top of her class from Butler High School, married Amos, and set off to see the world through life in the U.S. military before eventually settling in Miami with their three children. When the family band was formed, she found great joy in making music with her two sons, singing classics like Satin Sheets and Crazy in a voice reminiscent of Patsy Cline.

Jewel was a very dedicated employee, and it showed by her earning awards of excellence from her employer year after year. This never surprised her family. Their wife and mother was the woman who taught herself to program the first IBM computer at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Homestead when the company transitioned from paper to technology.

Jewel was smart, talented, fiercely independent, and deeply loved.

She is survived by her two children, Daniel Gipson (Kasondra) and Judy Knapp, along with her daughter-in-law, Laura and her bonus daughter, Margie. She is also survived by her sister, Diane Fears and her brother, Joe Ed Worley.

She was undoubtedly thrilled to have been welcomed into Heaven by her husband of 47 years, Amos H. Gipson; her first-born son (and obvious favorite), Randall Gipson; and her son-in-law, Arnie Knapp (all of whom we confidently assume got an earful once she arrived). She was also preceded in death by her parents, Flossie and William Worley, along with her siblings: Joyce, Margaret, and Jerry.

She leaves behind dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom are kind, smart, and outrageously good-looking. She spent hours with them laughing easily, acting silly, and letting moments unfold without care. She would insist they be named, so they are as follows:

Christine and Drew Jacobs with their children, Seth, Aubrey, and Sydney

Kelly and Keith Wiley with their daughter, Amelia
