Mr. Jerry Crigger of Hazel Green passed away on Tuesday evening while resting peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was 78, was a 1965 graduate of Hazel Green High School, and a veteran of the United States Air Force - having proudly served his country.

After his military service, Jerry worked for Bellsouth for 31 years before retiring. He never wanted to miss work and never took off days. As evidence of his amazing work-ethic, following his retirement he loved working with Mike Moore at Moore Farms, with his son-in-law, Adam, running the skid steer, being a part of the team at Lyon's Farm every fall, and faithfully working at his polling place during elections.

According to his granddaughters who affectionally called him "Poppa," Jerry was Mr. Fix-it and could repair anything at all. He meticulously cared for his home and belongings and was always available to help anyone else who needed him. People who knew him often commented on his beautiful, well-kept garden and his Christmas light displays that were a blessing to those passing by.

Jerry loved sports and was an avid Auburn fan, Boston Red Socks fan, and NASCAR fan. He was a faithful supporter of Riverside Christian Academy athletics and was always there to cheer for his granddaughters. Over the years, he has enjoyed coaching, officiating, and keeping books for various sporting events.

Mr. Crigger passionately loved his community and was all about selflessly serving others. He was a Christian and member of the Plainview Church of Christ. He demonstrated his faith by being involved in disaster relief efforts through his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Beatrice Crigger; his brother, Charles "Chuck" Crigger; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Edward & Ara Pauline "Polly" Whitaker Elledge.

Surviving family members include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Elledge Crigger; his son, Jeremy Crigger; his daughter and son-in-law, Jaime & Adam Ragland; his three granddaughters: Lilly Marie Ragland, Caroline Love Crigger, and Livia Hayes Ragland; his sister-in-law, Sharon Crigger.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 2pm until 4pm at Plainview Church of Christ. A graveside Celebration of Life will follow at Charity Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Darwin, Mike Moore, Mike Frederick, Alvie Tielking, Robert Edmonson, James Muirhead, and Steve Capps.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief; PO Box 111180; Nashville, TN. 37222 or to the Jerry Crigger Memorial Scholarship Fund at Riverside Christian Academy; 116 Riverside Lane; Fayetteville, TN. 37334.

Jerry will be remembered for his integrity, for always putting others first, for his kindness and positive spirit, and for his tremendous love for his family, especially his three granddaughters who were his pride and joy.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
