Today we gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Jean Elizabeth Skipper McKinnon — a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, faithful friend, and a woman whose gentle spirit touched so many lives.
Jean lived her life with grace, kindness, and a heart full of love. For 62 wonderful years, she shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Nickey J. (Teague) McKinnon. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, faithfulness, and partnership. Together, they built a home centered on love, laughter, faith, and family.
Jean was, first and foremost, a remarkable homemaker. She created a home where everyone felt welcomed, cared for, and loved. Whether family or friend, anyone who walked through her door was greeted with warmth, kindness, and often an incredible spread of food lovingly prepared for everyone to enjoy. Her back porch, surrounded by beautiful flowers, became a place of peace, fellowship, and comfort — a reflection of Jean herself. She had a gift for making people feel at home.
She was also hardworking and accomplished in many ways, serving as both a Realtor and receptionist throughout her life. Yet no role meant more to her than being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She treasured her children, Pam Mullins and her husband, Robert Mullins, as well as Skip McKinnon and his wife, JoAnn McKinnon. Her love only grew as her family expanded through her grandchildren: Hudson Mullins and his wife, Kathryn Mullins; Nick Mullins and his wife, Hanna Mullins; Alex McKinnon; and Jacob McKinnon. She absolutely adored her four grandsons and found tremendous joy in spending time with them. What a blessing it was for her to welcome her great-grandchild, John Lawrence Mullins, into the family legacy she cherished so deeply.
Jean is also lovingly remembered by her brother, James Skipper and his wife, Anita Skipper; her sister-in-law, Deiadra Gambrell and her husband, Olin Gambrell; and her sister-in-law, Arlene Teague.
She now joins in eternal peace her beloved parents, Robert Lee Skipper and Etha Peavy Skipper, along with her in-laws, John William Teague and Izoria Black Teague, who surely welcomed her home with joy.
Jean loved life. She enjoyed traveling, social gatherings, and spending time with those she loved. She always carried herself with elegance and warmth — always well put together and wearing a smile. She had a fun-loving spirit that made people comfortable and happy to be around her. But beyond all of those qualities, what truly defined Jean was her faith.
Jean loved the Lord with all her heart. Having trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age, her faith guided her throughout her entire life. She desired to shine the light of Christ everywhere she went, and she did exactly that — through her kindness, hospitality, encouragement, and the love she gave so freely to others. Her life was a testimony of quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Jean was truly a blessing to so many, and her memory will continue to bring comfort, inspiration, and joy for generations to come.
Surviving family members include her beloved husband of 62 years, Nickey J. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Hudson Mullins and his wife, Kathryn Mullins; Nick Mullins and his wife, Hanna Mullins; Alex McKinnon; and Jacob McKinnon; along with her treasured great-grandchild, John Lawrence Mullins.
