Gwen Hunter Potter of New Market passed away on Friday, August 29. She was 95 and was the daughter of the late Elvie and Bertha Spray Hunter. Gwen was known for being a hard-worker and an integral part of her Walnut Grove Community where she and her family have operated Hunter and Potter Grocery, a landmark community store, since 1972. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Potter; six brothers, Homer, Cecil, Billy, Collins "Tooter," Willard, and Albert; three sisters, Evelyn “Josie” Layne, Pauline Campbell, and Linda Lou Sibley; and her special friend, J.D. Harris.Surviving family members include her children: Anthony (Charlotte) Potter, Dickey Potter, Michelle (Bob) Rodgers, and Karen (Brian) McBride; her three grandchildren: Rachel (Josh) Garces, Leah (Matt) Case, and Trey (BreAnna) Rodgers; and her five great-grandchildren: Isabel Garces, Chloe Case, Naomi Garces, Colin Case, and Karis Case.The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, August 30, from 4pm until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 31, at 4pm at Stateline Cemetery with Reverend Eddie Lones officiating.
