George Michael Gardner of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 90 following a short battle with pneumonia and COVID.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he earned his CDL and spent time driving across the country before beginning a career as a technical writer in the early aerospace industry. During his career he worked with Grumman, Boeing, and Sikorsky Aircraft. George also obtained his pilot’s license, reflecting his lifelong love of flying.In retirement, 

George made his home in Hazel Green, Alabama. He enjoyed spending time working in his yard and getting together with friends to play Bunco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Bauer) Gartner and George Gartner; his brother, Stephen Gardner; and his children, Lisa Gardner and David Gardner. He is survived by his wife, Sherry (Richter) Gardner; his sister, Barbara Hendricks; his daughters, Danielle Petrocelli, Cindy Gardner, and Mary Gardner; his sons, Christopher McCarron and Luke McCarron; his stepsons, Michael Stanners and Russell Stanners (Debbie Duquette); his brother-in-law, Carl Richter; and his sister-in-law, Nina Hucke. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
