George "Butch" Cross, 80, of Huntsville, Alabama passed into the loving arms of our savior on July 24, 2025 at Hospice Family Care Huntsville, Alabama surrounded by loved ones. He was born on September 17, 1944 in Winchester, Tennessee to the late Randall and Carmen (Clark ) Cross .

He was a devoted and loving husband as well as a proud and doting father and grandfather. His family meant everything to him, and he treasured every moment with them. 

Butch was a man of deep faith and great patriotism. He was a born again Christian trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Butch served his country in the US Navy. He worked as a software programmer for over 40 years much of that in service to the Department of Defense. Butch was proud of the contribution he was able to make in our nation’s security.

In his spare time, Butch loved motorcycling. He enjoyed riding for over 50 years and was a charter member and served as vice president of the Huntsville chapter of Rolling Thunder, a group dedicated to honoring veterans. He proudly participated in the Memorial Day ride in Washington, D.C., and rode the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma for several years. 

George is survived by his wife Elaine Cross; children George Clark Cross II, Rebecca (Dennis) Patterson, Stephen (Michelle) Mann, Mark (Laura) Mann, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren as well as extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 2 sisters. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 PM with Reverend Gary Matroni officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens.
