Gary Wayne Hopkins

Mr. Gary Wayne Hopkins, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday. He was 62.

Gary was a family man who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and was a great cook, whether in the kitchen or on the grill. He had been laying brick since he was 15 years old. Gary loved the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Nolan Hopkins; his wife, Melissa Hopkins; the mother of Sharon and Veronica, Brenda Brand; his son, Gary Wayne Hopkins Jr.; and his granddaughter, Christina Hernandez.

Surviving family includes his children, Sharon Benitez (Jose), Veronica Vizcaino, Heather and Heath Brodeak; his grandchildren, Denver May, Karina Hernandez, Evan Benitez, Josie Benitez, Jaxon Benitez, Logan Hopkins, and Adriana Vizcaino; his great-grandchild, Myra Hopkins; his siblings, Penny Wilson, Charles Hopkins, Brenda Keel (Timmy), Vickie Turner, Lisa Hopkins, Larry Butler (Khristi), and Michael Payne; his dog, Bama; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Anthony Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
