Ellen Oleta Thornley, 97, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on August 26, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born on March 11, 1928, in Scipio, Oklahoma, to the late Jasper and Mollie Nave.
Ellen grew up in eastern New Mexico and graduated from Monument High School in 1946. She loved her flowers, birds, cats, and garden, and enjoyed riding her golf cart around her yard. She often shared stories of the war years, listening to the radio for news of her brothers. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and enjoyed crocheting and embroidering baby blankets.
She is survived by her children, Vicki Wallace and Sherry (Larry) Walker; grandchildren, Cara (Thomas) Brazeal and Daryl Wallace; great-grandchildren, Ashten (Mat) Grover, Tanner (Rachel) Wallace, and Blair Wallace; great-great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Ryan, and Presley Grover; her beloved cat, Snowball; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Cleo Thornley; infant son, Robert M.; two sisters; three brothers; son-in-law, Jon Wallace; and her cat, Baby.
The family will receive friends at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Concord Cemetery with Tom Brandon officiating.
