Edith McCormick, 92, of Madison, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning while surrounded by her loving family. She would have celebrated her ninety-third birthday in just a few days. She enjoyed a long and meaningful life characterized by youthful vigor.
She was born in Limestone County to Arthur and Willie Ray Sanderson and grew up in the East Limestone community as one of twelve siblings in the Sanderson family. She graduated from East Limestone High School and was recruited to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C., where she and her parents were able to meet Director J. Edgar Hoover. After spending about a year in Washington, she returned to Madison County to care for her father and worked for a number of years at First Federal Savings and Loan in Huntsville.
She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, looked forward to traveling with her late husband, Ed, and loved dining at her favorite restaurant, Chick-fil-A.
She was a kind and generous person who loved helping others. She enjoyed going to Gatlinburg every fall to see the leaves change, visiting the beach, and watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud every day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed McCormick, in 2001; her daughter, Debbie Chappell, and son-in-law, Mike; and her special friend, Beth Reid.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Vickie Wells; her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Alisa Wells; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Anita McCormick; and her siblings, Maebell Whitt, Robert Sanderson, and Linda Perry. She is also survived by five grandchildren—Cassie Wells Deal, Julie Wells Todd, Brandon Chappell, Brittney Hayes, and Daniel McCormick—along with eleven great-grandchildren and her special friends, Linda Brady and Debbie Rogers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Gerome Hilliard officiating. A cryptside service will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mrs. McCormick will be remembered for her love of life, her sense of humor, her joyful laughter, her beauty and grace, and her deep love for her family, friends, and the world around her.
Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
