It is with deep sorrow and steadfast hope in Christ that we announce the passing of Pastor Dwight Milburn Gross, Jr., who entered into eternal life on May 1, 2026, at the age of 64.

Born on May 30, 1961, in Hazard, Kentucky, Milburn was the beloved son of Dwight Milburn Gross and Janice Hurt Gross. A man of deep faith and remarkable dedication, Milburn faithfully served both his community and his Savior as a pastor and an attorney. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the pastor of First Flint River Baptist Church. His life was a testament to service, intellect, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to the Lord.

Milburn devoted 26 years to pastoral ministry, during which he preached approximately 1,800 sermons, faithfully proclaiming the Gospel and shepherding those entrusted to his care. In addition to his ministry, he practiced law for 35 years, serving his clients with integrity, wisdom, humility, and truthfulness.

Milburn devoted himself to education and learning, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Alabama, a Juris Doctor degree from the same institution, and a Master’s degree in Religion from Liberty University. He balanced his roles as a pastor, attorney, and student with impressive determination and grace.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Milburn cherished his family deeply. He was proud of each of them and often shared details of their lives. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Gross; his father, Dwight Milburn Gross; his mother, Janice Hurt Gross; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Boyett and her husband, Jacob; and his son, Dwight William Gross; He was a proud grandfather to Hudson and Grayson Boyett, who brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his beloved sister, Jennifer Lunceford and her husband, Jerry; his niece, Brittany Ferrell and her husband, Nathan; and his nephew, Brian Barton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Dora Combs Gross, Conda Milburn Gross, Della Smith Hurt and Carl Hurt.

Milburn will be remembered for his strong faith, his love for music and ministry, his sharp legal mind, and his ability to encourage and guide others. He was also a passionate fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football, always happy to cheer them on. Whether in the pulpit, the courtroom, or among family and friends, he lived a life marked by purpose, compassion, and conviction.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. A Celebration of Worship and Remembrance will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 2:00 pm at First Flint River Baptist Church on Moores Mill Road in Meridianville with the Reverend Bobby Eads officiating and with Joey Newton and Will Gross sharing reflections. Music will be provided by David Freeman and Mark Tate. Burial will follow the service in Flint River Cemetery adjoining the church.

In the words of the faith he lived so boldly, Milburn now rests in victory, free from pain, and in the presence of his Savior. He had made that sure and certain and would desire for each of us to follow his example.
