Dorothy Hopper Wilburn, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on May 7, 2026.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wayne Wilburn; her parents, James and Margaret Inez Hopper; and her sisters, Sue Hopper Hill and Ann Hopper.

She is survived by her loving children, Dorann Wilburn Tanner (Alan), Latesa Wilburn Pinkerton (Gary) and Mark Wilburn (Christy); grandchildren Noah Tanner, Anna Cate Tanner (Braden Smith), Frankie Wilburn (Brooklyn), Megan Wilburn Slone (Trent) and great-granddaughter, Maggie Joy Slone.

Dorothy was an accomplished and compassionate nurse who devoted her life to caring for others. She concluded her nursing career as the school nurse for Montevallo High School, where she impacted countless students and families with her kindness and dedication.

More than anything, Dorothy loved her family deeply. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and anyone who spent time with her was sure to hear stories about each of them and the joy they brought to her life. Dorothy had a gift for making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and supported. Her unconditional love and caring spirit touched all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at Charity Lane Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Gary Pinkerton, Mark Wilburn, Trent Slone, Alan Tanner, Noah Tanner, and Braden Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Petty Officer First Class Frankie Wilburn, who is proudly serving our country overseas aboard the USS Tripoli (LHA-7).

Dorothy’s love, compassion, and devotion to her family will be remembered always. She is loved high as the sky and wide as the ocean.
