It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Fredrick Weaver, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left this world on April 24, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on June 30, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, David was the beloved son of the late Carl and Harriette Weaver. He was also predeceased by his infant sister, Naomi Mae.
David spent his early years in Mesick, Kingsley and Flint, places that shaped his character and where he formed lifelong friendships. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1955, an institution that laid the foundation for his remarkable journey through life. It was in Flint where he met the love of his life, Barbara Rex, and they married on July 20, 1957, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 49 years until Barbara's passing.
In 1958, David answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He dedicated eight years of his life to military service, including a tour in Korea, before receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. His time in the Air Force was marked by dedication, camaraderie, and a deep sense of duty that he carried with him throughout his life.
After his military service, David embarked on a fulfilling career with Michigan Bell. He started as an installer and quickly rose through the ranks to become a supervisor. His career took a significant turn a few years later when he was promoted to Engineer. Among his proudest achievements was the complex and challenging task of laying cable beneath Little Traverse Bay. David retired from the telephone company in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and innovation.
Beyond his professional life, David was a man of many passions. An avid deer hunter, he never missed an opening day, cherishing the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the hunt. His love for guns, reloading, and archery was matched only by his green thumb in the garden. David loved his dogs and spent a lot of time training them to hunt. He was an avid reader, loved history and thoroughly enjoyed a hearty debate. David also possessed a natural talent for woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. His workshop was a testament to his creative spirit and engineering mind, filled with projects, tools, and collections of materials he could somehow turn into something extraordinary.
David often reminisced about his childhood adventures, including the time he built an airplane from discarded scraps, a testament to his lifelong ingenuity and curiosity. His stories and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Lastly, David lived his life as a strong man of great integrity and strength of character. Those attributes carried him through some of life's toughest moments, including overcoming cancer nearly 12 years ago.
David leaves behind a loving family who cherished him dearly: Daughter Lora and husband Harvey Washburn, son David Carl, granddaughters Melissa and Jennifer, and great- grandchildren, Natalie and Daniel.
Though his wife has preceded him in death, her spirit remains entwined with his, and they will soon be reunited as per David's wishes. His ashes, along with Barbara’s, will be interred at Cornell Cemetery in Buckley, MI, later this summer.
David Fredrick Weaver was a man of honor, humor, and heart. His contributions to his family, community, and country have left an indelible mark, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created with those he loved.
