David Lee Barksdale

Mr. David Lee Barksdale of Toney, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026. He was 83.

Mr. Barksdale was a Christian and a member of Wooley Springs Church of Christ. He spent his life farming and had a deep love for agriculture. He was also gifted at working with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and built log cabins, churches, rocking chairs, and other projects. He also enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride in keeping it looking nice.

Known affectionately as “Popsie” by his grandchildren, Mr. Barksdale loved his family and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Linnie Peace Barksdale; his brother, Wayne Barksdale; his sister, Faye Kay; and his son, Loren Brooks.

Surviving family members include his wife, Barbara Barksdale; his children, Davita (Richie) Henthorne, Cynthia (Tony) Grisham, Greta (Paul) Goedde, and Renee (Tommy) Brown; his grandchildren, Madelyn, Mahayla, Paige, Brittany, and Brandon; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sylvia (James) Howard and Kathy (Ken) Pristas; his brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Kay; and other loving family members and friends, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, August 22, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Brother Royce Estes and David Vess officiating. The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the service at Madison Cross Roads Cemetery.
