Mr. Curtis Hicks of New Market went to be with the Lord on Saturday. He was 76. Mr. Hicks was a skilled brick mason who spent his career laying brick. He then worked for Madison City Schools where he later retired. He enjoyed his work and was especially loved by the children and he loved them in return.
Mr. Hicks was a man of personal faith who had trusted Christ. His love for others evidenced his relationship with God. He was always willing to help others in need and, over the years, he was a dad to many who had no dad of their own. Curtis was affectionately known as "Poppa" by his grandchildren and others who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Helen Hicks and by his grandfather, Lee Lincoln Davis.
Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 57 years, Wanda Hicks; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle & Paul Smith; his son and daughter-in-law, Matt & Shilo Hicks; his daughter and son-in-law, Tori & Renny Rapoza; his grandchildren: Katie (Zach) Jones, Tiny (Dustin) Allison, Dylan Hicks, Aiden Rapoza, Sawyer Hicks, Karah Rapoza, and Bryson Smith; his great-grandchildren: Kingston Allison, Malachi Jones, and Noella Jones; his bonus grandchildren, Aly Coleman Windle and Mary Clayton Windle; his siblings, James (Teresa) Hicks, Bill Hicks, Judy Sylvester, Brenda (Tom) Johnson, and Vicki Hicks, and his special sister-in-law, Elaine Ziedan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening beginning at 5pm at The Event Center at Roto-Rooter. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Please see below for a donation link.
Mr. Hicks will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his love and affection for all those around him and for making the world a brighter place.
