Charles M. Hughes

Charles McLain Hughes, 92, of New Market, Alabama, passed away at his home on October 8, 2026. He was born on October 22, 1933, in Madison County, Alabama, to the late Robert Hughes and Leona Hickson Hughes.

Charles is survived by his son, Michael Hughes (Beverly); his grandchildren, Steven, Justin, Lindsey, Jeremy, and Drew; eight great-grandchildren; his sister Lois Esslinger, several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Leoda Harbin Hughes; his son, Charles McLain Hughes Jr.; his great grandson Maxton Hughes; his brother, Monroe Hughes; and his sisters Averne Manning, Joyce Peak, Reba Rosebrough, and Nelda Jacks.

Mr. Hughes will be laid to rest in Taylor Cemetery in private at a later date.
