Sidney M. “Buddy” McCann of Hazel Green passed away on Monday morning. He was 90.
Mr. McCann was a 1955 graduate of Monrovia High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.
A humble man, Buddy enjoyed the simple things in life. He grew up playing sports, especially baseball and basketball, and later enjoyed gardening and deer and turkey hunting. He was also well known for his Brunswick stew, which he cooked in a cast iron wash pot, and he had quite a sweet tooth.
Buddy was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Prospect Baptist Church. He had a special place in his heart for children and dearly loved the children of his church, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed joking around and teasing those he cared about.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Logan & Delpha Maebelle Scott McCann; his siblings: Herchel McCann, Edith Davis Gaines, Lila Berryman, Jewel Harbin, Melvin McCann, Dorothy Garnett, Dean Vickers as well as an infant brother.
Surviving family members include his wife of 58 years, Trudy Bishop McCann; his daughter and son-in-law, Gina & Greg Edwards; his son, Logan McCann; his grandchildren: Jessie Phillips, Sydney Knight (David), Charis Edwards, and Logan McCann II; his great-grandchildren: Braelyn Phillips, Abel Phillips, Ella Knight, Magnolia Knight, Benjamin Knight, and Logan McCann III.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening. August 13, 2026 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ronnie Gay and Pastor Kevin Davis officiating. Burial will follow the service at New Sharon Cemetery.
Pallbearers include David Knight, Logan McCann II, Jason Stewart, Randall Stewart, Ken Wood, Chandler Bolin, Honarary Pallbearers are Mike Berryman, Gene Fanning, Buddy Martin, Ted McGehee along with Prospect Baptist Church Deacons: Chris Ables, Jack Atchley, Jason Carpenter, Dickey Crutcher, Johnny Fugate, Charlie Rozar, and Terry Reavis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund; 32 E Prospect Rd, Fayetteville, TN 37334.
