Matthew Murphy Obituary

Matthew William "Matt" Murphy, 51, of Hazel Green, Alabama, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Thursday.

Matt was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. He graduated from Gordon Tech High School before attending Loyola University.  He was a proud Eagle Scout along with his father, brothers, and his son.  While in elementary school, he became part of a band in which he played bass guitar and he continued to play bass in different bands for several years.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan.  Before moving to Alabama, he was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Parish in Chicago and after relocating, he became a member of Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church in Hazel Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Nora Murphy and by his father-in-law, Gene Shores.

Surviving family members include his wife, Pam Shores Murphy;  His son, Colin Murphy;  His brothers: Kevin (Beth) Murphy and Tim (Anita) Murphy; His sister, Mary (Peter) Zastrow;   His mother-in-law, Wava Shores;  His brothers-in-law, Greg (Debbie) Shores and Eddie Shores; 5 nieces, 7 nephews, two great-nieces and a great-nephew;

The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 11am at Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm at  the church with Pastor Benny Berry officiating.   Burial will be in Bevill's Cemetery.
