Anne Esther Jones

Our dear Anne P. Jones fell peacefully asleep in the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ on
Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the age of 83, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL.
From her birth on June 21, 1935, to her death just short of two weeks ago, Anne Jones was a
feisty woman with a presence much bigger than her physical stature, an unshakable faith in
God, and an undeterred confidence that life is good despite the many challenges it brings. She
was silent before ever being unkind and gave without judgment. She rejoiced over the
accomplishments and joys of family, friends, loved ones, and perfect strangers more than they
ever could for themselves.
Mrs. Jones was born in Georgetown, SC, on June 21, 1935 to Ethel Lewis who died when Mrs.
Jones was eight years old. Her father’s name is unknown. Her grandfather Wesley Lewis and
grandmother Mary Cobb Lewis raised her until the age of eleven at which time she moved to
Connecticut to live with uncle and aunt, Albert and Eliza Weston. In 1956, at the age of twenty-
one, she married Benjamin Peake (deceased).
Though Mrs. Jones only completed her education up to the eighth grade, she believed in
education, proper grammar, and was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. She maintained a
thorough knowledge of the biblical stories and history. She could readily cite Scripture verses
and their references and was a master at Bible trivia.
In her professional life, she worked at nursing homes and Lawrence Memorial Hospital as a
nurse’s aide in various capacities such as the surgical and cancer floors. For many years, she
faithfully served in that position, gaining the favor of her coworkers, doctors, and supervisors.
Finally, she landed her favorite job in the clinic where she worked with pregnant teenagers until
her retirement in 1997.
She leaves behind a family who loves her dearly: children, Sandra (Reuben) Griffin, Steven
(Keona) Peake, Roger (Jacinta) Peake, Mark (Ana) Peake, Karl Peake, and bonus son Chris Jones
(Tara Connors); grandchildren, Jevon (William) Bolden, Jason Oakman, Makaila Strickland, Adailyn Anne Renee Peake, Raymon Bonona, Andrew Bonona, Mark A. Peake, Matthew Peake, Shayla
Morin, Karla Peake, Isaiah Peake, Randy Davenport, Roshawn Peake (deceased), Sardey
Michelle Stallings, Antwon Thomas Brown, Jackson Jones; great grandchildren: Autumn Jevon
Bolden, Austin William Bolden, Jalynn Dionne Marie Oakman, Keilana Ava Marie Oakman,
Azaliaha Solé Peake, Ziehr Davis, Kenyatta Peake, Gynanny Brown, Danyel Ortiz, Zhyona Ellis,
Bronze Fooks. She is also survived by her ex-husband William H. Jones, her brother Herbert
Small and her sister Shirley Brown, and a host of friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Anne Jones will always be remembered for her dignity, style, and never-ending desire to help
and serve others. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, “manicuring” her lawn and sitting
on the porch. She looked forward to attending church where she praised and worship the Lord
she loved. She loved children and helping those in need.

Services celebrating her life will be held at Hazel Green Funeral Home with the wake on
Saturday, March 16, the funeral on Sunday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. local time, and the burial at
Oakwood Memorial Gardens on Sunday, March 17. At a later date, the family will also host a
memorial service for Mrs. Jones in New London, Connecticut.
