Hazel Mae Towery

Mrs. Hazel Mae Gaines Towery, 87, of Hazel Green, passed away on Wednesday at her home.

Mrs. Towery was retired from Genesco Shoe Company where she worked as an inspector and machine operator. She was a faithful member of Hayes Chapel Baptist Church, and was known as "Aunt Hazel" by her church family and other friends. Her hobbies in life were working in her yard and crocheting for her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Towery; Her parents: Clyde and Bessie Gaines; Her brothers: Norris and Curtis Gaines; Her niece, Deborah Paulette Hunter-Jean;

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Edwina Murphy; Her sisters: Betty Ren McAlister and Blanche Hunter-Jones; Her nieces: Sherry Stinnett-Witt and Monte Stinnett-Black; Her nephews: Nevis McAlister and Steve Hunter;

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 until 2pm at Hayes Chapel Baptist Church on St. Clair Road in New Market; Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Eddie Clardy and Rev. Jeff Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hayes Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund. in memory of "Aunt Hazel"; 199 St. Clair Road; New Market, AL 35761;
