Mrs. Dessie Cantrell Wimberly, 91, of Hazel Green, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Saturday in Fayetteville, Tennessee while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1925 in the Lickskillet Community to G.W. and Addie Neely Cantrell, Dessie attended New Sharon and Hazel Green Schools and grew up in the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was then a part of Lincoln Baptist Church and owned and operated Wimberly Grocery in the Stateline Community along with her husband, Vernon. In later years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green. More than anything, Dessie enjoyed spending time with her family. Several years after the death of her husband, Vernon, she married Aaron Satterfield and brought his six children and their families into her life.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Wimberly, by her second husband, Aaron Satterfield, and by her infant daughter, Kathy Darlene Wimberly; She was also preceded in death by her parents, G.W. Sr and Addie Neely Cantrell, her twin sister, Lessie Hunt, her sister, Lela Hames, her brothers, G.W. Cantrell Jr, and Alvie Cantrell.
Surviving family members include her sons, Don Wimberly and his wife, Deanne, and Randy Wimberly and his wife, Barbara; Her grandchildren: Dana (Charlie) Rogers, Dori (Skip) Swaim, Gabe (Laura) Wimberly, Aaron (Daphne) Wimberly, Ben (Jenny) Wimberly, Her great-grandchildren, Carson and Caroline Rogers, Bella Wimberly, Austin Walley, Reid Walley, Cale Wimberly, Grayson Wimberly, and Rosalie Wimberly; Her brother, James Cantrell, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Bobby Eads officiating. Burial will follow in Stateline Cemetery.
